It wasn’t spectacular, it wasn’t pretty, but Neil McDonalds men showed they have just what it takes to compete at the very highest level of this league.
Simon Grayson’s blackpool side are no mugs, experienced, some may actually say elderly, this Tangerine outfit are no mugs. Yet tongiht, Carlisle United simply outplayed, out fought and outfoxed them in every area of the field.
A crowd of 8,401 witnessed the Blues cruise and a fine opening goal from Chris Lumsdon on 18 minutes. Thereafter it was something of a scrappy affair, but Blues were not outdone anywhere. Blackpool had more of the possession but never truly looked capable of inflicting harm on a resilient United defence.
When Karl Hawley finished exquisitely in the closing stages, it was deservedly all over, the three points were achieved and with them something of a consolidatory position in the top five of the League One table. With three of the four teams above blues dropping points this evening, this particular commentator and supporter confesses to feeling utterly elated by whats happening at Carlisle United. To sit in fourth position in the league after 11 games is indeed a fantastic achievement.
