Carlisle were on course for a shock win at League 2 leaders Burton on Wednesday, a win that would have almost assured us of Football League survival but a late, late injury-time denied us a win.

In the eighth-minute of added time Burton finally, have had no fewer than 30 attempts at goal, finally broke our hearts with a goal to see the game end in a one-one draw at the Pirelli Stadium.

We needed only a couple of minutes to take the lead when captain Grainger (2) fired home a fine 25-yard freekick, which was taken into half time.

That lead was taken all the way into injury time until a penalty kick that Beavon won gave McCrory the chance to level in the 93rd-minutes, but when Gillespie saved this it seemed almost certain that we would hold on!

But it wasn’t to be as loanee Johnstone (90+8) scored with literally the last kick of the game to give the home side, which in fairness it can’t be said they didn’t deserve, a point.

This point leaves us six-points clear of the bottom two, an eight-point lead would have been just about enough but we’ll still hope that we’re just about home and dry now whereas Burton are two point clear and could confirm promotion on Saturday.
Plymouth (h)
We’ll be disappointed not to have seen this one out, and as much as we would have taken a point it might feel like less but we’ve got to respond in our next game against Plymouth, but will we?
