Ahead of the new 2015/16 season Keith Curle confirmed that Danny Grainger would be the Carlisle captain this season.

Grainger, as he did last season under Curle, with the Blues captain with him handed this responsibility again this term in a move the Carlisle boss confirmed ahead of the season opener at Mansfield on Saturday.

Plenty of players arrived at Brunton Park in the summer and there were other options the boss could have gone with but he’s kept faith with the defender who he’s told the Cumberland News is a player who leads by example with him having the qualities he’d expect in a leader.

‘I like Danny – he’s not afraid to make a mistake and voice an opinion. Sometimes it’s how you react when you’ve made a mistake, which is what I like.

‘Danny has a voice and leads by example in everything he does in and around the building, which is important.

‘People aren’t allowed to hide away. He keeps the group together. That’s what you need, and we also need to make sure that is allied with Danny being a consistent performer on the field.’

The Blues, of course, also confirmed the squad numbers for the new season before that game at the One Call Stadium, with all the new boys given numbers.
