Carlisle, quite surprisingly really, were one of the busier sides at the end of the transfer window with quite a few comings and going before Monday’s 11pm deadline.

The opportunity to do more business, if finances permit, returns for football league clubs from Sunday when the loan window reopens but the Cumbrians didn’t wait with them snapping up Leon McSweeney.

As the utility man, he can play in defence or midfield, was a free agent following his release by Leyton Orient in the summer he could’ve been signed outside of the transfer window but with his quality and ability at league one level Greg Abbot didn’t want to hand around.

It’ll take him a bit of time to get up to speed but the 29-year-old should soon be match fit and will do a good job for Carlisle I’d say. He’s been around a bit but has done that job wherever he’s been, when he’s played!

This signing leaves Abbot closing in on 100 during his time at Carlisle; he’s made 98 so far…
