Jordan Pickford is coming towards the end of his loan spell with Carlisle, however Graham Kavanagh is hopeful of keeping him for longer.

The Sunderland ‘keeper comes to the end of his loan spell after the league one meeting with Port Vale this weekend but, along with Wigan Athletic loanee midfielder Danny Redmond, the Cumbrians boss hopes to keep Pickford, and Redmond.

Kavanagh was quoted by the Sunderland Echo as saying: ‘We haven’t spoken yet, but I would definitely want to keep both of them for as long as I can.

‘They have been great additions to the club, both in and around the group and also getting valuable minutes.

‘We are allowing them to make their mistakes with us, but their clubs have also been first-class in entrusting us with their players.’

With Sunderland paying ‘the bulk’ of the 19-year-old wages the Cumbrians would also be hopeful that this would remain the case if his loan could be extended for the remainder of the season, as is the hope.
