Colchester were unbeaten and Carlisle had endured a miserable start to the season going into this game at the WHCS on Friday night.

Even at this early stage of the season Greg Abbott knew Carlisle couldn’t afford another defeat or his Carlisle job could quite possibly had been lost?

When Robson (4) fired home from 20-yards Carlisle were off to a dream start, he left Walker with no chance, and that would have settled the nerves.

Before 10-minutes were played Miller could have doubled the lead but he headed wide.

Gillespie saved to deny Ibehre but couldn’t do anything to get to Olufemi’s effort, fortunately for Carlisle but unfortunately for Colchester this came back off the woodwork…

The match flowed with both sides having chances and when Noble had the ball in the net Carlisle thought they had a two-nil lead but this was wiped out for an offside.

Gillespie denied Sears once but couldn’t a second with Sear (71) firing home well after Massey kept his head and squared the ball back to the former England U21 international.

Colchester had the last word, but Gillespie saved again (and Abbott’s job?) as the game ended in a 1-1 draw.
