Doncaster Rovers are first up at Brunton Park this weekend, and it couldn’t have been tougher oppostion for Blues to take up the challenge of life in League One. Doncaster are one of the favourites to win promotion this season and have a settled and very competitive side who will punish Blues if given the opportunity.

United though will be willing and keen to make their mark it this level, with a new boss and a couple of useful additions to the squad,it would seem a reasonable guesstimate that we will have nothing to fear in this league. Kevin Gall is more than capable of consistently hitting the back of the net, then we have Messrs Hawley and Bridges – many supporters have labelled them GBH.

Much will depend on the strength and depth of the squad, injuries will no doubt take their toll as will the increase in class. United don’t have the biggest squad in the league and as the season wqears on Neil MacDonald may well have to dip further into the transfer market to strengthen his squad. Particularly if, as speculated, Michael Bridges is sold on early in the season.

What can we expect this time round? Well it would be too much to anticipate another promotion challenge, We have anew boss and backroom staff, players need to settle with his tactics as well as with football at higher and much quicker level. Despite this, there are sides in this league who dont look to have the quality we possess. Mid-table or just above would be an excellent finish first time round, hopefully with a decent set of results behind us in our first three games. Not asking much am I?

Whatever, its going to be another exciting season for all Blues fans, so lets get behind the boys and give them all the support we can.
