Carlisle United have rejected Livingston’s bid for striker Derek Holmes.

Livi are currently bottom of the Scottish Premier League table and boss Paul Lambert has eyed the 27-year-old Scottish frontman as a possible signing.

Holmes has scored five goals for the Cumbrians this season and has enjoyed spells north of the border with stints at Hearts, Cowdenbeath, Raith Rovers and Ross County.

But Carlisle boss Paul Simpson insisted he was not interested in what Livingston had to offer: ‘We have had an enquiry from Livingston, but it isn’t enough of an enquiry for us to allow Derek to go,’ said Simpson.

‘He is part of the squad, and part of what we are doing here at the club, so we have told them that he is not available. We are not in a position where we have to let players go and we have let Livingston know that.”
