Carlisle’s league cup season ended in the first round on Monday night.

It was a battling display but Carlisle lost out 2-0 to championship outfit Derby County in the league cup at Brunton Park in the live sky sports game.

The sides couldn’t be separated at the break as they went in level at nil-nil.

We came so close to breaking the deadlock just after the hour mark but Derby ‘keeper Grant was able to tip Symington’s freekick onto the crossbar, just moments later the visitors went ahead….

Hendrick (62), just after the freekick, headed Derby into the lead with our resilience broken.

An equaliser couldn’t be found by the Cumbrians with Martin (90+3) volleying home a cross by Russell to secure a two-nil win, and a place in the second round for Steve McClaren’s side, in injury-time.
