Rory Delap had spoken of an interest in returning to Carlisle, however the veteran midfielder’s chances of doing so have been played down by Greg Abbott.

Abbott has formed a close bond with Delap, and it is with his help that Carlisle have managed to bring in a few former Stoke players as the Irishman has recommended a move to Brunton Park for them.

That said, as he told The News & Star, Abbott isn’t exactly ruling out a move, he is merely playing it down. He said: ‘I’ll see what he is doing and you can never say never, but Rory will have his own ideas on where he wants to go.

‘I don’t yet know what Rory’s plans are.’

Delap had expressed an interest in a return, so it would appear that the 37-year-old would be open to returning to the club where his career started more than 20-years back.

If the deal is right for the club I believe that Delap still has something to offer so bringing him back home wouldn’t be a bad thing.
