On-loan striker Michael Bridges has pleaded with Carlisle United boss Paul Simspon to extend his stay at Brunton Park.

The former Premiership star joined the Cumbrians in November after falling out of favour with Bristol City and is enjoying life so much in the north that he wants to stay with Simpson’s men.

‘If we could sort something out and I was welcome to stay, I would be more than happy with that,’ Bridges told the Cumberland News.

‘It looks like I might have to go back to Bristol City as they are running short of strikers at present. But it’s up to the two managers and if they can sort things out then I’m happy to stay here.

‘There’s a great set of lads here and the banter’s fantastic, Everybody keeps you on your toes and brings you down to earth. I’m enjoying it.’

Elsewhere, Paul Gardiner scored for the reserves as they drew 1-1 with Tranmere on Wednesday afternoon. Boss Simpson gave himself a run-out, along with first-teamers Brendan McGill, Glenn Murray, Simon Grand, David Beharall, Anthony Williams and Jamie McClen.
