Holmes sparks super Cumbrians

Rampant Carlisle United signalled their intent last night with a stunning 4-0 rout of Rushden & Diamonds at Nene Park.

Goals from Derek Holmes, Karl Hawley and Chris Lumsdon, plus a debut strike from loanee Michael Bridges, blew the Diamonds away and boss Paul Simpson was naturally delighted with the his side’s display.

‘I am pleased the strikers have taken their opportunities, but we have been showing this sort of attitude all season,’ claimed Simpson.

‘Now we will be hoping for the same again at Peterborough on Saturday.”
