Carlisle have suffered something of a blow ahead of the FA Cup fourth round tie with Everton as Danny Grainger’s injury, sustained in the replay win over Yeovil, will keep him out of the cup-tie with the Premier League side.

The captain, who has been instrumental to United this season, is working his way back to fitness but Keith Curle knows, with him playing ‘the best football’ he’s seen from him, his absence is a blow.

He told the Official Website.

‘Danny will be out for a few weeks now as he follows his rehab programme. It’s obviously a blow for us to lose him. I think he’s playing the best football we’ve seen from him and I know for a fact he’s enjoying the role of being a leader, both in the dressing room and out on the pitch.’

The 29-year-old has scored six-goals in his 30 appearances so far, if he had been involved it would have made and already difficult job against Everton, who were knocked out of the League Cup at the semi final stage to Man City on Wednesday, a little easier.

Curle is certain he’ll be back soon though, adding.

‘He’s a goal threat, a goal scorer and he sets a good example. It’s disappointing for him, but the pleasing thing is I know he will tackle his injury in the same way he’s tackled everything else this season. That’s with his usual levels of determination and enthusiasm. I have no doubt he will make sure he’s back sooner rather than later.’
