Carlisle’s 2014/15 season got underway with a home defeat on Saturday.

It was hoped that Carlisle could start the new season in a positive manor but conference champions from last season Luton weren’t ever going to be easy, with them running out one-nil winners.

Graham Kavanagh was left disappointed and frustrated by the defeat.

He thought that the players weren’t ‘brave enough’ with him feeling that his players were a little too ‘fearful’ but is taking positives from an improved second half performance.

Kavanagh told the media after the game: ‘The players I pick have to be brave enough to take on the challenge.

‘I’m disappointed with the result after we had a very good pre-season. We didn’t bring it to the party and we weren’t at it in the first half.

‘You have got to give a performance and I sensed a bit of fear which surprised me, but there were a lot of positive to take from the game in the second half.’

A first half goal from Cullen proved to be the difference with some half time words seeing an improved second half, which he feels should have brought an equaliser that he felt we deserved.

He added: ‘After half time we competed all over the park and should have got some reward.’

One man that got plenty of praise was Courtney Meppen-Walter with him braded as ‘magnificent’ and ‘first class.’
