Carlisle’s League 2 season continued with a defeat against Newport at Rodney Parade on Saturday.

Kicking-off the weekend in an early start gave Carlisle the chance to lay down a play-off market against possible rivals but United slipped up losing one-nil at Newport.

A Scott Boden goal early in the second half proved the difference with Carlisle ending with 10-men when loanee Brandon Comley was sent off late on for collecting his second yellow.

These were the other results.

Saturday 13th February 2016
Newport 1-0 Carlisle
Accrington 4-1 Crawley
Wimbledon 4-1 Luton
Dag & Red 0-2 Barnet
Hartlepool 2-1 Yeovil
Leyton Orient 0-4 Northampton
Morecambe 2-4 Oxford Utd
Plymouth 3-0 Mansfield
Portsmouth 3-1 Bristol Rovers
Stevenage 2-0 Cambridge
Wycombe 1-0 Exeter
York 2-1 Notts County

Plymouth (three-nil against Mansfield) and Oxford (four-two at Morecambe) both kept their automatic promotion bids very much on track, which is perhaps just as well they won as most of those below them looking to take advantage of any slips also won, which retains the status quo but helped the play-off bid for some.

At the other end of the table Hartlepool (two-one against Yeovil) collected an important three-points as Craig Hignett celebrated his first game in charge, having replaced Ronnie Moore a few days earlier, with a win to ease the relegation concerns against a rival whereas York (two-one against Notts County) aided their survival bid with three-points at Bootham Crescent.

Being the league leaders Northampton’s (four-nil) win over play-off chasing Leyton Orient wasn’t a surprise as such but to win so emphatically at the Matchroom Stadium really sees the Cobblers stamp their authority and lay down a marker if you will!
