Lee Miller, now fit and firing again, had become influential to Carlisle at the tail end of the season just ended.

Unfortunately the 29-year-old is now out of contract.

A new contract has already been offered to the striker, however he is taking his time to decide his next move and does have a month to respond.

Greg Abbott, as he told The News & Star, sees Miller as what he’d want as his focal point for his attack next season. However he can’t plan many other moves until he knows if the Scot will remain at Brunton Park.

Players of Miller’s mould don’t come along every day, and Abbott knows this. He said: ‘That is a key area to get sewn up, whether it’s Lee or someone else.

‘It’s not going to be easy. If Lee doesn’t sign you can’t just say you’re looking for another Lee Miller. There aren’t too many similar around. They don’t grow on trees. We might end up looking for a number nine but a different type to Lee.

‘Then we would maybe play a different way. Until we find our who we can and can’t get, we have to wait and see.’

Frustrating times for Abbott, however Miller has to do what is right for his own career and family too and perhaps a one-year option isn’t going to be enough for him?

By June 1st a decision will be known, hopefully a positive one for The Cumbrians!
