Graham Kavanagh continues to be linked with the vacancy at Hartlepool. Greg Abbott insisted, last week, that such talks were “news to him” and he expected a new deal to be signed for him to continue as his number two.

The News & Star reports that Kavanagh himself declined to be drawn on the rumours when contracted by them.

It’s still being maintained that no official approach has been made to The Cumbrians for the 39-years-old, who could form a double act with former Carlisle man Paul Murray, but he remains one of the favourites with the bookies.

The odds-on favourite remains former Nottingham Forest, Middlesbrough and England international Colin Cooper.
