Promise Made!

Not so much a promise more an assurance, well in fact a ‘guarantee’ from Keith Curle was made following a disappointing Easter period from Carlisle, which could had been worse but for a late equaliser on Good Friday!

Following the two-two draw with Portsmouth at Brunton Park last Friday, and directly following the three-one lost at Accrington on Easter Monday Curle told the Official Website, among other things, that he could ‘guarantee’ the fans that we would be in League 2 next season.

One point from a possible six on offer over Easter leaves us just above the bottom two but Curle insists that we’ll stay in the Football League.

‘I will keep this club in the Football League, I can guarantee that

‘I’m staking my reputation on it. Everything I do or say is done with the utmost honesty and this is a situation I’ll face and we will pull through and be stronger for it.

‘We’re seeing a lack of personality and mental strength in the changing room and we’re now asking them to show us what they’re about. There’s enough in there to keep us in the division this year and, once we’ve achieved that, the rebuilding can start. Right now it’s about doing the job that’s needed.’

I admire the positive attitude from the former England international, and wouldn’t expect anything less – as such, but perhaps he should have expressed the views a little more subtly?

If, and we of course hope this isn’t the case, we don’t stay in League 2 there can only likely be one outcome as far as his future at Brunton Park goes….
