Josh Gillies’ move to Carlisle looked as though it might have collapsed a couple of times, fortunately a deal has been agreed for him to try his hand in the Football League.

Impressive form for Gateshead had seen him catch the eye of a few clubs, but it was Carlisle that he wanted to join and with a compensation package with his former club agreed the attacking midfielder has now penned a two-year deal.

Money wasn’t the 23-year-olds motivating factor in the slightly it was just about getting “the opportunity” with the club, he told The News & Star: ‘There were a few times I thought it might not come off.

‘I was speaking to Gateshead and Carlisle, going back and forth, and nothing was getting agreed.

‘I first spoke to Greg [Abbott] about five weeks ago. As it was dragging on I thought I was going to end up back at Gateshead, but luckily everything got sorted.

‘I`m over the moon to be here. I`ve always wanted to play as high as I can. Now I`ve made that step I just want to crack on and work hard.’

Gillies should prove an excellent addition to Greg Abbott’s squad for the coming season, and future seasons.
