Carlisle’s run without a victory, of course stretching back to last season, continues following an opening day defeat in league 2.

Luton Town returned to the football league as conference champions last season with their return seeing them win 1-0 at Brunton Park on Saturday afternoon.

In a half of few chances the only one that was converted, sending the visitors in one-nil up at the break, was Cullen’s (30) as he made no mistake with a tap-in following a cross after good work from Benson and Howells.

Paynter had a great chance to make his debut with a goal but from a similar distance to Cullen, albeit under more pressure a combination of the post and Luton ‘keeper Tyler kept the ball out, he also headed an Amoo cross wide later in the second half.

Tyler had to do well to keep out a Meppen-Walter header late on as Luton held on to win one-nil.

It is now seven league games without a win for Graham Kavanagh’s (granted this season much changed) side….
