It’s being claimed that Carlisle are one of a number of clubs interested in signing Southport’s in-demand defender David Fitzpatrick?

The ‘sky sports understands’ reports say that the 24-year-old looks as though he’ll be stepping out of non-league this summer with a move into league 2 with Carlisle one of several clubs ‘keeping tabs’ on him.

Fitzpatrick, a left back by trade, scored a 30-yard stunner to help secure Southport’s status as a conference club last season with his performances earning him a call-up to the England C squad but ‘strong interest’ from football league clubs is likely to see him move on this summer.

If Carlisle do have a genuine interest in him they’ll have to battle with league 2 rivals Newport County, Oxford United, AFC Wimbledon and Luton Town apparently.
