James Berrett is a player that Carlisle are refusing to ‘give up hope’ of keeping next season.

A new contract was offered to the 25-year-old, however this had so far remained unsigned. Graham Kavanagh is keen to retain the midfielder but had also last week warned him that he wouldn’t ‘wait forever’ for him to sign.

The News & Star said earlier this week that talks have resumed with Berrett in the hope of securing his Brunton Park future.

League 1 interest is being shown in him but an offer to make him one of the clubs ‘highest paid players’ has apparently been made to him, if that doesn’t secure his future then nothing will!

In others news Carlisle’s league 1 relegation last season has cost them in more ways than one. Dropping into league 2 means that the will be among the 18 clubs that are unseeded when the Capital One Cup takes place next week.

They’ll face a seeded northern opponent from the championship or league 1.
