They’ve had an extra 24-hours longer than most sides but Carlisle are back in league one action this evening.

Carlisle travel to Bramall Lane to take on FA cup semi finalists Sheffield United on Wednesday night looking to respond to the defeat at the weekend.

James Berrett is an injury doubt after he was forced off against Sheffield United by a thigh problem at the weekend.

The loan deals of Jordan Pickford and Danny Redmond were extended though so Graham Kavanagh can call on both of these players as well as Charni Ekangamene, who is back with Carlisle after returning to Manchester United over the weekend.

Injuries keep out Matty Robson, Sean O’Hanlon and Paul Thirlwell but Reece Brown and James Pearson could come into contention after signing on loan earlier this week.

Graham Kavanagh was happy with the weekend performance but disappointed by the loss but hopes that a ‘hangover’ from the FA cup success will hold Sheffield United back, but they are on a great run.

The Carlisle boss told BBC Late Kick Off North East & Cumbria: ‘It was a classic away performance in the first half [of the 2-1 defeat] at Port Vale to go in deservedly 1-0 up.

‘We were just a little naive, maybe lacking that bit of experience but I can’t fault the work-rate or performance from the boys.

‘We know it’s going to be a very tough game against Sheffield United, but hopefully they’ll have a little bit of a hangover from their FA Cup win.’
