Alex Salmon’s rewards for the breakthrough he made at the tail end of last season with Carlisle is a first professional contract.

The 18-year-old has signed a one-year deal.

Salmon, as he told the official website, knows what lies ahead of him now: ‘I know that the really hard work starts now.

‘Training with the first team is a lot harder because everything is much quicker. It gets easier and easier as you get used to it, though.’

The striker made his Cumbrians debut against Bournemouth last month, also featuring as a substitute against Colchester as well and will be looking to make the same impact next season that a number of youngsters did last season.
