Graham Kavanagh might not be so optimistic over the chances of James Berrett accepting the contract offered to him to extend his Carlisle stay but Paul Thirlwell should commit soon.

The News & Star reports Kavanagh as expecting to secure veteran Thirlwell on a new one-year contract fairly quickly.

Long serving Thirlwell is expected to extend his Cumbrians career into a ninth season with him adding extra responsibilities to his playing ones too with him seen as ‘a vital link between manager and dressing-room’ at Brunton Park.

35-year-old Thirlwell would remain a primary player for Carlisle but has also started doing some scouting for the club too with some form of coaching perhaps in the offering too as his career begins to wind down?
