It’s never easy to release a player, however you’d imagine that some are easier than others?

Peter Murphy, after 477 appearances spread over 11-seasons, was informed by Greg Abbott that his contract wasn’t being renewed this summer when it expires.

The “unbelievable tough decision” to release the defender was one that Abbott, as he told the official website, didn’t like at all.

He said: ‘Peter has been part of everything we’ve done, going back long before I came here.

‘He’s a real professional and it was very emotional to have to have that conversation with him. I did not find that easy at all.’
