Friday night – party night?

Image for Friday night – party night?

Grimsby Town currently sit in fourth place in the league two table, behind them in fifth sit Cheltenham Town. Hardly a fixture to enthuse fans of Carlisle United? Yet for ninety minutes on Friday night every supporter of Carlisle United will be willing Cheltenham Town to success – that being anything but defeat. If Grimsby fail to win this fixture, then Carlisle United will be automatically promoted without so much as kicking a ball.
If that is the case then expect a massive party at Field Mill, Mansfield the following day when Super Blues come to town. Indeed, no matter the outcome of the Grimsby game expect the travelling support of Carlisle United to enjoy their day.
As what has been a truly incredible season for Blues comes to a close, promotion and possibly the Championship is their for the taking. Like all good Carlisle sides this team haven’t made it easy, but they do have the look of a side brimming with confidence and self belief, such sides are generally successful and Blues will be no different.
Throughout a tough season, each and every one of them has been a real hero, matchwinners or pointsavers, they have worked as a solid unit to take this league by storm. Michael Bridges is currently getting all the plaudits, but lets not forget the likes of Simon Hackney, Chris Billy, Kev Gray and their peers all of whom have been truly fantastic in their efforts. For me, Zigor Aranalde has been a revelation, Chris Lumsdon and Danny Livesey solid and reliable, the Murrays added a bit of quality when needed, Peter Murphy as reliable as always and Keiron Westwood, well the best goalie in the league by a country mile. Then there’s the magician that is Karl Hawley and his strike partner Derek Holmes both of who have worked their socks off for the cause.
Roll on next season and League One, another challenge, a tougher test, but one we are up to.

Won’t be easy either way. Still, its always better to do it in front of your own fans.
