United ? attacking the waterworks end during the first period have gone desperately close three times, Michael Bridges missed from close range on six minutes, shooting straight at the Lincoln keeper – Murray.

Later on 18 minutes he (Bridges) had an effort which struck the crossbar. Two minutes later, Kevin Gray failed to connect with a header from a set piece which was knocked down from Derek Holmes the ball rolling harmlessly out for a goal kick. Lincoln ended the half the stronger of the two teams.
