In From The Cold

Billy Paynter is back in the first-team fold at Carlisle, having made his first appearance on the bench on the year as we beat Cheltenham one-nil at Brunton Park on Tuesday.

The News & Star reports that his ‘dispute’ over a fine, which saw him take his case to the PFA, hasn’t been resolved yet but nevertheless the 30-year-old is back in the good books!

Keith Curle included him on the bench for the first time in three-months on Tuesday, some might think that it’s a little suspect that this came around this, but regardless it’s happened and he looks to be back in from the cold?

Curle insists that he’s ‘not ready to start’ but having ‘trained well’ will get a chance again when the time is right with him earning his place in the squad.

‘Unfortunately Billy was never going to be fit to start the game – ideally we would have played a bounce game for him so he could have got 90 minutes under his belt.

‘But he’s been training with the group and training well, and he’s earned his right to get back in.

‘As and when needed it would be good to get him some game-time but that will come.’

If Paynter can offer us something we’re lacking we’ve got to use him, so it’ll be interesting to see what happens going forward.
