Michael Bridges could be classed as a journeyman footballer, lets face facts he’s been about a fair bit.

From Sunderland he moved in a multi million pound deal to crashing and burning Leeds United, his estimated annual salary at Elland Road for one season exceeds United’s annual payroll five times over for a similar period. At Leeds he won nothing, but injuries. In a fit of petulence after a period of non first team selection – he said, after they had subsidised his recuperation that he would never play for them again. His yorkshire career finished in disharmony.

From a struggling Leeds outfit he flirted with, to name but a few, Newcastle United, Bolton Wanderers and Bristol City never quite making the grade or his mark. Finally, Paul Simpson and Carlisle United rescued him from the football scrap-heap. for a while michael struggled and looked tired and weak, then came Rushden and Diamonds away, a somewhat bundled goal opened the goal scoring flood gates and once again his confidence returned alongside the goals, sensational ones too.

The media pack, hungry for a decent story immediatelt resurrected the resurgence of Michael Bridges, omitting the Carlisle United link, goals flowed and United flourished. Gradually Michael became the goalscoring hero of Brunto nPark, despite the fact that another sensation, in the form of Karl Hawley was banging goals in for fun. It was Bridges who got the headlines.

Now with United moving closer to the nations football elite and stepping into League One, rumours and speculation that Bridges is on his way out of Brunton Park fill the football airwaves. Aston Villa, managed by the premierships biggest flop and most overated manager, David O’Leary are believed to want him, Sunderland, losers and in freefall are believed to want him, Leicester City, a club who are hardly bigger than Blues apparently want him. Everything but reality.

Michael Bridges has already said that he intends to remain at Carlisle United for the at least the first half of next season.
Club officials have stated that it has been agreed that Michael will be allowed to leave if Blues are not challenging for promotion at Christmas time and the opening of another transfer window. All fair comment, all true, forget the £250k quotes and rumours, Michael is going nowhere just yet. He knows on which side his breaded is buttered and is honest enough to give loyalty to a club and manager who saved his career.
