Simmo rumours rife

Whether the lure of Championship fooball with a struggling east midlands side with little or no money, hardly any future or potential, a stadium which they never fill and support which is quiet and fickle to say the least, is open to debate.

The supporters of The Rams would appear to prefer a member of the Clough family as their boss, in the shape of Burton Albion boss, Nigel Clough. Whether young Nigel has the ability, confidence or ability to take over at this level is another matter. There are those who believe he has spent too much time at non league level and has to move into the football league very shortly if he is to progress his managerial career. This is where the questions are being asked of him, those close to the Brewers boss claim he is happy to continue at the non league level, yet Burton are hardly a top non league side?

So where else do the hacks look, ex players who are now maangers – hence the sights are set on Brunton Park and our very own Paul Simpson. There are a number of reasons why Simmo possibly wouldn’t fancy a move to Derby. Primarily he is a Carlisle lad – born and bred, he is worshipped here and whether we all agree with it or not, Carlisle has to be a better place to live than Derby where the major employer is factory work at Rolls Royce!

Then we have Derby’s ground – to put it mildly, without atmosphere, its on a grim industrial estate and wherever you look there is grimness all around. After that, well Derby have a long record of not achieving anything (forget the 1970’s they are long gone) since then they have dropped like a brick and haven’t really achieved much of anything really. This season they have but one player with any acumen, Tommy Smith, they lost recenty 6-1 at Coventry who presently themselves are worse than average.

The positives for Derby – there are none, a grey town in Nottingham, grey football and a grey stadium. Whereas we have Carlisle United. Brunton Park could easily pull in as many fans as Pride Park, United are on the way up, possible back to back promotions. Success is just around the corner every season. We are blue, very blue not a chance of us turning grey. Our fans are fanatical, loud and very much behind the team and Simmo.

All in all Simmo knows he is our god, he has Fred as his boss, that in itself cant be bad, then he has the chance to build and create something very special indeed. Why would he choose Derby over Carlisle?
