A Grand Day Out

In the bigger picture of things, an away game at Stockport County would not necessarily be viewed as a ‘big’ game. However, tomorrow’s game has a massive impact for both teams.

For Super Blues we can win the Championship by points instead of goal difference, which would be right and proper, albeit I’m not too bothered how we win it. For County well if results go against them they could be relegated to that wilderness called the Conference.

Carlisle have of course virtually won the Championship, barring a ridiculously high scoring victory by Northampton Town against promotion chasing Grimsby Town.

A huge turn out of blues will be present at Edgeley park for tomorrows fixture, the official ticket allocation has been sold out for days but many more genuine Blues are expected to make the journey. It promises to be a frantic and tetchy affair. The pressure being more on the home side to win to ensure survival in the Football League.

Oh how times change. How many times have Blues been faced with such a challenge on the very last day of the football season! Tomorrow promises to be a grand day out for everyone connected with Carlisle United, winlose or draw we will ultimately be the winners. For Stockport it wont be a carnival
or party atmosphere, not until around ten to five in the afternoon when their fate will truly be known.

The outcome? Well as we know anything can happen on the last day of the season, no doubt Blues will be letting the home fans know exactly how Oxford Utd are faring in their own escape act, the result from that game could effectively dump County out of the Football League. Nerves, stress pressure all on the home team…it could go either way but I fancy a Blues victory and an Oxford defeat to keep County safe.
