Five – Thats Grand!

However, history counted for nothing today. Pre match Darlo boss David Hodgson said his side feared no one and that Carlisle could be beaten by Darlington. Oh how he must regret making such a foolhardy claim – his side were absolutely thrashed on their own soil, five – nil by a rampant Carlisle United.
The kick off was delayed thirty minutes due to a larger than expected crowd turning out for the game. Just why this should cause so much havoc around the area is beyond belief, as everyone knew a larger than average crowd was going to arrive, everyone it seems except the local police who seemed surpried that a guess-timated 3000 plus United fans made the trip. There seemed many more United fans than that estimate and the delayed kick off did nothing to un-nerve the super blues.
The goals, well they came from all areas of the park, Kev Gray on 44 minutes, followed Derek Holmes on 59, Michael Bridges on 61, Glenn Murray on 87 and finally Simon Grand on 90 minutes. It was an absolute rout and it could have been worse.
Results elsewhere saw blues moves clear at the top of the table from Grimsby who just beat struggling Bury 2-1 at home. Wycombe surprisingly lost at home to Torquay United whilst Orient lost to Rushden, Northampton lost at Mansfield and Peterbrough drew with Barnet. Automatic promotion looks more or less assured for the super blues, with a five point gap between top and fourth.
With Boston up next at Brunton Park, the immediate future looks more than a little optimistic.
