Carlisle remain very much involved in the league 2 relegation battle following our defeat at promotion chasing Bury, who moved back into the play-offs with a win over us.

Having recovered from falling behind early on we weren’t able to hold onto, or better, this point at Giggs Lane with a second half goal give Bury a two-one win on Saturday.

Nardiello’s (16) early penalty, after loanee Young had brought down Mayor, put the home side ahead but we reacted quickly when Pope couldn’t hold onto Meppen-Walter’s 25-yard effort with Rigg (22) following up to make it one-one.

Shortly past the hour mark Nardiello (62) was on target again to restore the Bury lead, he had the chance to complete a hat-trick when a penalty was awarded for a handball against Sweeney but Gillespie kept out his spot kick, not that it impacted on the final outcome….

These were the pre-game poll thoughts:-

Bury v Carlisle
Draw 66%
Carlisle win 34%
Bury win 0%
