Carlisle had been thrashed by Cambridge earlier in the season at the Abbey Stadium – on Saturday afternoon the game was ‘much closer’ but the outcome the same, another Cambridge win as their one-nil win at Brunton Park saw them complete the league double over us.

We can only have ourselves, and some bad luck, to blame though as we were guilty of wasting plenty of chances, Steven Rigg’s header did come back off the bar though with Anthony Sweeney, one of those guilty of a first half miss, and Troy Archibald-Henville also seeing effort cleared off the lone.

Cambridge’s winning goal saw Liam Hughes’ (48) 25-yard effort deflected past Mark Gillespie, who had no chance.

Going into the game a draw was anticipated, so the outcome not as expected as these were the pre-match polls findings:-

Carlisle v Cambridge

Draw 100%
Carlisle win 0%
Cambridge win 0%
