Managerial Names Pouring In

The surprise revelation in todays Sun newspaper that Colin Hendry is in ‘talks’ with the club about becoming the new manager has shocked all true blues, surely he can’t be in the reckoning? Hendry has no real managerial experience at this level, he made a mess of things whilst he was at Blackpool, taking them to the verge of relegation, hardly the CV required by Carlisle United.

John Carver currenty Head Coach at Leeds United. Untried as a manager but very well recommended by some top managers in the game, not least Sir Bobby Robson who worked with him at Newcastle. Carver would be an exceptional choice especially if supported by Dennis Booth.

Martin Allen who walked out of Brentford a couple of weeks ago and was expected to take over at Tranmere Rovers – it never happened. Allen is a strict disciplinarian and totally committed to success, loud and extrovert he has what it takes to manage at this level and would be another great candidate. However, he is Southern boy with his roots very much down south, Carlisle is a long way from those roots, would he settle here? That aside he is expected to take over at MK Dons this very week.

Dennis Booth/Kev Gray – well with the news that Simpson wont be taking him to Preston, Dennis is left holding the fort so to speak. Whilst he is an exceptional motivator, Dennis may not have what it takes to take over as number one, especially with an inexperienced assistant as Kev Gray would be. Not what is required right now.

Billy Barr – Promote from within as Liverpool have in the past. Not quite ready yet…this is a big season for Carlisle United, they need leadership in the form of an experienced manager with real direction and know how at this level. Someone who knows the Championship well enough to be able to bring in players from that status to help us move forward.

No doubt more shocks and revelations will come out before the big decision is announced. Just when that will be is anyone’s guess, however, one can only hope that it well reasoned judgment and is sooner rather than later.

I’m not really sure that ‘Mad dog’ would relish moving all the way up north. I reckon he’ll be looking for something nearer London.
