Carlisle threatened a fightback, but we gave ourselves too much to do against Wycombe on Saturday and ended with 10-men also didn’t help as we lost for a third game running. A three-goal deficit is something we threatened to overturn at Brunton Park but fell short as Wycombe went away having boosted their promotion hopes, and dented our own survival ones, with a three-two win.

Wycombe had been threatened a breakthrough and it finally came just before the half hour mark when Pierre (28) headed past West Ham loanee debutant ‘keeper Raphael Spiegel to send them into the break ahead.

A little past the hour Onyedinma (62) fired home to make it two and three-minutes later Spiegel was picking the ball out of the net again when his defence let him down and McClure (65) made it three.

Dempsey (67) pulled one back within minutes to give us a little hope and when Wyke was brought down by Mawson we had a late penalty chance. Grainger (82) beat Ingram to make it three-two but when Beck got a straight red card just minutes after coming on that was that….
